Like a teddy bear! I defy you not to finish that rhyme off in your heads! Ha I bet you couldn't do it, lol, I know I couldn't.
I thought today I would introduce you to the new kids on the block, or to be more precise the new chickens on the block.
So here we have on the left Blackcurrant, on the right Flower and if you look in the background we have Fizz just poking her bum up. Let me show you a better photo of her!
There we go that's better isn't it.
We still have two much older chickens who stopped laying at about 18 months so we have been bereft of eggs for about 2 years now. We were intending to wait until those two had popped off to feather heaven but Daddy Troll's aunt phoned us up asking if we would be able to take these three off her hands. She was having trouble with foxes and had also had a bunch of chickens stolen from her garden during the night.
We were more than happy to take them considering the circumstances. Unfortunately nothing is ever plain sailing and although we have tried the whole night time introductions and supervised meetings it has not worked. Flower has been repeatedly pecked at quite savagely by one of our elder two so we have had to separate them permanently.
This weekend Daddy Troll made a lovely little hen box for the older two and has separated the run which is a shame as now they have much less space to dig around in, but I was not prepared to let them bully her to death, which they have done to a previous chicken.
Anyway, spurred on by all the rain that we are finally getting the garden has been alive with colour. The last 4 years or so of hard work have paid dividends and we have quite a lovely yet small little patch of land in front of our house rather than a patch of mowed weeds.
English Lavender softening the colour of the brick and the vintage chimney. Destined for some cake soon.
Soft pink petunias spilling over containers, high up on a wall.
Astillbes blooming like clouds hiding the familliars that swim in the pond below.
Beans making their ascent skywards, towering up past the aquilageas and Rosemary kept by the front gate to keep our home protected from bad spirits.
Roses bowing their heads, with the burden of their beauty.
A small but delightful space and I shall continue to nurture it and enjoy its changing faces.

How do we cook with lavender? I am intrigued!! FMx
Stay tuned Foster Mummy, I will do a post on this, it's going to be a yummy extravagansa, hehe.x
Damned foxes. One stole away our littlest chick a few weeks ago. I had to chase the thing screaming and banging! Love love love the roses and I'm jealous of your lavender... ours looks quite sad at the moment. My hubby does lamb crusted with lavender which is devine and I adore lavender short bread.
Oh poor little chick, alas that's the downside of chicken keeping, I'm quite lucky as Daddy Troll built them an enclosure, but it means for their own safety they don't get to free range. Mind you it also means that I can have a garden rather than a dirt patch!!!
The picture of the Lavender was a few days ago actually, since then we have had some downpours and the rain has somewhat made it a little sad looking, but still good to cook with. That lamb sounds delurptious! and I'm going to be including lavender shortbread in my cooking too :)
